Characterization of the surface properties of phasins

 

Phasins are proteins synthesized and incorporated by bioplastic producing bacteria involved in the morphogenesis of the carbonosomes also known as polyhydroxyalkanoate granules. Phasins confer spherical shape to the bioplastic granules stabilizing and protecting them for the interaction with other cell components. The properties of these phasins suggest having a remarkable surfactant capacity. In this objective, we aim to in vitro characterize the phasins surfactant properties in order to study their potential application in biotechnological processes (Fig. 1.).
